A great way to "get in the era" on the Row is to rent a replica Model-A from Monterey Rent-A-Roadster for a tour of the coast as far as Big Sur, the way Mack and the Boys (in Steinbeck's "Cannery Row") did in the thirties.

Herb Behrens answers any and all questions at the Cannery Row Welcome Center (operated by the Cannery Row Foundation) in the historic postal rail car. The old Southern Pacific rail line though Cannery Row is now the Recreational Trail, a popular walking, biking, and roller blading link between downtown Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf, and Lovers Point (Pacific Grove).

Jack Lew's "Chimport" is well worth a walk up from the Row to Lighthouse Avenue (near Irving Avenue) to browse--and hopefully buy something from this genuine hold-over from a much earlier time.

Pampas grass the Chinese call "Lu Ahn," (signifies good fortune) and a morning sky at McAbee Beach. The Monterey Canning Co. cannery perches over the Bay as it has since 1916.
